Why audio?

Podcasts are a unique way to tell stories, entertain and enlighten your audience. Listenership has been growing year on year and there is a genuine thirst for great content. If done right they can build a loyal following which can become a community of fans. People often listen whilst doing something else – be it walking the dog, washing up or going to the gym – and often while wearing headphones which gives the format a unique intimacy and direct connection to your audience.

Why me?

Alice has worked in the audio and podcast industry for many years. She started her career as a news reporter for BBC Hereford & Worcester radio, before moving to London to work for the 24-hour rolling news station News Direct (owned by ITN). In 2001 she started freelancing for BBC Radio 1 on their speech and features content before applying for, and getting, the dream job of Documentaries Producer at BBC Radio 1. She stayed in this job for thirteen years, interviewing bands and creating content for a young audience as well as occasionally travelling the world to interview musicians!

In 2017 as the podcast scene was really taking off in the UK Alice decided to leave the BBC to explore more opportunities in the world of podcasting. Employed by Wisebuddah (now Listen) as their speech Executive Producer, she oversaw the development and production of several series and programmes for the likes of Audible, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 1 and The Science Museum in London. She also executive produced several short films for BBC iPlayer.

In 2019 she was poached by the book publisher Orion Publishing to be their Podcast Commissioner, where she developed a slate of in-house podcasts with Orion authors as well as pitching for and winning the commission for a BBC Sounds commission – the first BBC commission produced entirely by a book publisher as the production company. This was a three-series podcast with the boxer Tony Bellew called Tony Bellew is Angry that charted at no. 3 in the Apple Podcast charts.

In early 2023 Alice left the corporate world to go freelance, working on projects for the likes of Audible and the BBC as well as facilitating workshops for Roundhouse in London. She also spent three months living in Helsinki, Finland on a Finnish government scheme to attract talent to the country called #90DayFinn which converted her to the Nordic way of life forever.
